Armed motorist shuts down Katy Freeway, shoots himself

HOUSTON, TX - A driver with a gun prompted the shutdown of a major Houston freeway early Friday morning.

Just after 12 a.m., 911 calls started pouring in about a man with a gun standing next to his car along the Katy Freeway near Washington Ave. Officers closed off the freeway while they tried to make contact with the man. After a few minutes, police approached the car and found the man had shot himself. He was rushed to the hospital, but officers don't think he'll survive.
