HOUSTON- We’re all working for a living but instead of working 5 days a week would you rather work 3?
We asked Houstonians their opinions. Mariah Berry would. She says, “I think the 3-day work week is a great idea.” Alex said, “It sounds great in principal but no.” Chris Dunn disagreed, “A 4-day weekend is always a good thing.”
What genius, slacker came up with this idea? Carlos Slim, the second richest man in the world. The Mexican telecom billionaire pitched the idea of a 3-day work week at a business conference in Paraguay. There’s a catch though, instead of working 8 hours day, you’d work 11; and instead of retiring at age 65 you’d retire between 70 and 75.
That changed opinions a little bit. “I love the idea of a 3-day work week but not the idea of longer, later retirement” says Lyn. Lisa Bandy agrees, “I don’t think I would take it. I’d want to retire earlier.”
It’s a choice of instant gratification versus delayed gratification- unless you think “out of the box” like Victoria Owens, “My suggestion is working 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.” Uh, nice work if you can get it.
