Tanker truck flips over and explodes, driver walks away

HOUSTON, TX – A truck driver is recovering from minor burns after the gasoline tanker truck he was driving overturned and caught fire.

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s office reported that the truck also spilled 8,800 gallons of fuel when it overturned on East Sam Houston Parkway near the Crosby Freeway around 7:44pm Friday night.

“The Harris County Hazardous Materials Response Team was also called in to assist” said Lieutenant Dean Hensley with the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office. “HM-2, a Type I – Foam Tender, applied fire fighting foam to extinguish the fire.”

Crews from the Crosby and Huffman fire departments, along with representatives from Harris County Pollution Control and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality were also called to the scene to help with the clean- up efforts.
