Talk about team building for a cause! Canstruction Houston’s mission is to aspire different approaches to a food drive. They’ve created a unique competition among Houston area architects, engineers, construction firms, and students in which they come together and build creative, ingenious canstructures with canned food and other non-perishable food items. All items will be donated to the Houston Food Bank, just in time for the holidays. Last year, 29 teams comprised of firms and school participated. Altogether their structures used 101,146 cans, allowing the Houston Food Bank to provide 87,846 nutritious meals for hunger relief charities in 18 counties.

Upcoming Events:

T-shirt & Site Selection Party – October 26th

Build Day – Saturday, November 16h

Judging Day – Wednesday, November 20th

Public Day – Saturday, November 23rd

Awards Ceremony – Saturday, November 23rd

DeCanstruction Event – Sunday, November 24th

If you are interested in volunteering, De-Canstruction Volunteers are needed to assist Canstruction teams at CityCentre to break down structures, box donations, and dolly the canned goods. This is a great way to help serve the Houston Food Bank, while getting a wonderful workout! Individuals who are the minimum age of 16 years old may participate. With a parent or guardian, children who are at least 8 years old may volunteer. To volunteer, contact Toni A. Oplt at 713-547-8663. For more information, please contact Yolanda Alexander at 713-547-8670.
