HOUSTON — A surveillance camera hidden behind the cash register of a southeast Houston convenience store caught a chilling sight Friday evening when three gunmen stormed the building.

It started out as a typical day at the ToDo Market in the 1500 block of Evergreen Drive when all of a sudden the room filled with smoke and armed men dressed in black masks rushed to the counter and started firing their weapons.

The video shows store employees dashing into a safe room while one customer hit the deck. The first gunman tried opening the door — hitting the lock, kicking it and repeatedly opening fire using a semi-automatic weapon.

A second gunman is seen shooting into the bullet-proof glass, chipping away at it but not breaking through, in the video.

“The lock is stuck inside,” store manager Naeem Sadruddin said. “They didn’t have no hangers to remove it.”

Investigators said the men did run off with one customer’s cellphone and wallet, which sitting on the counter.

No one was injured, according to Houston police.

“Somehow they want money from us,” Sadruddin said. “I mean, I don’t know what’s going on around the city.”

Anyone with information in this robbery is asked to call Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
