EL LAGO, TX - A heartfelt father-son reunion plays out locally, and it’ll melt your heart.
It’s been more than a year since Senior Airman Armando Del Valle has been home to see his family, "I don’t like raising my kids through Skype. I like to be active with them, so it’s good to be home.”
Christian Del Valle is six years old and in first grade. He asked about his dad coming home just this morning, but his mom, Laura fibbed, and told him, "next week."
Today's surprise reunion was planned by mom/ wife Laura, Clear Creek ISD and the teachers at Ed White E-STEM Magnet School.
To hide his identity until the big reveal, Del Valle dons a turkey costume over his camo. This fits in nicely since the P-E teachers are also in costumes.
The first grade class enters the gym, runs some laps then performs the 12 Days of gym dance. Del Valle (in his turkey costume) dances along with the kids.
Finally it’s time to reveal who's the turkey is! When Christian realizes it's his dad, he gives him a big long hug. While dad sniffles and fights back tears, Christian whispers, “I missed you Daddy.”
Like most in our Armed Forces, this husband and father missed holidays and birthdays. Now that he's home to stay, this Christmas will be even more special. Merry Christmas Del Valles!
