NE HOUSTON — A family is counting its blessings this morning after barely escaping an apartment fire with a small baby.

Flames broke out just after 4:30 this morning at a vacant house off of Brewster street in Northeast Houston. It quickly spread next door.

Thankfully an older woman  who lives there woke up just in time.

She was able to get her cousin and his 8-month-old baby out safely.
Meanwhile they lost everything in the flames.

Arson is investigating the cause.
