HOUSTON, TX – A U.S. District judge has rejected a civil rights lawsuit filed by Chad Holley’s family.
You’ll remember this case: back in 2010, Holley’s caught-on-camera beating by several Houston Police officers ended with four indictments. Two officers pleaded no contest while a jury convicted another and acquitted one.
Holley’s mother filed suit months after the beating. But Friday, a judge dismissed it with prejudice, which means Holley won’t be able to file again on the same charges. In the 26-page ruling, Judge Ewing Werlein wrote that “none of the Offending Officers had ever had complaints sustained against them for wrongful use of force before this incident.”
Holley’s family still has the opportunity to appeal. Five years in, this case still appears to be far from closed.
