HOUSTON, TX – Got your shopping done yet? Didn’t think so. The good news in this modern credit card world is that you’ve got a month to figure out how you’re going to pay for all the stuff you bought. Unless, of course, you’re one of the lucky ones who gets a holiday bonus.
It’s probably no surprise that fewer and fewer companies offer holiday bonuses these days. In fact, only 45% of companies polled said they did.
“Maybe they feel that your job is a bonus,” Houstonian Anthony Jones chuckled when we asked if his employer gave bonuses.
No one we found said they expected a bonus this year.
“That seems to be the way things are going,” Kyle Bodnar said. “You work longer hours, you work harder and there’s less benefit for it.”
CEOs are still getting bonuses. H.I.S.D. Superintendent Terry Grier got an extra $125,000 for his effort this year. Not bad compared to the 2% pay raise most teachers can expect.
“If you want somebody to work for you – not just come to a job, but really work for you – it’s wise to give an incentive,” Robert McDonald explained when we asked why average folks deserve such rewards.
And while it would be nice, if you’re like most of us, don’t hold your breath.
