HOUSTON, Texas -- Today is the first day you can start filing your tax returns, and bear in mind, some things are different this year.

“The game changer this year is due to the Affordable Care Act, you need to have proof of insurance. If you have insurance, there is no penalty but if you don’t have insurance, you may be subject to a penalty,” says Diane Ketcham, owner of Liberty Tax Service.

The IRS is warning that budget cuts will affect how they function, so expect a potentially longer wait for your refund.

You have until April 15 to file.
