SPRING, Texas- Law enforcement responded to a home in the 3400 block of Meadowhill Court in Spring around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday after they received a call from a man claiming he shot his father multiple times.
When deputies arrived, they found Brian Merritt, 53, deceased. Merritt was a former Harris County Sheriff’s deputy who served for almost 30 years. He left the agency in March of 2017.
Gonzalez said investigators believe there was a disturbance going on between Merritt and his wife when his 22-year-old son fatally shot him. There have been no charges filed at this time.
A neighbor told us he has seen police respond to the home multiple times during the past two and a half years that he has lived next door to the family.
The investigation is ongoing. When officials finish the investigation, evidence will be presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for consideration.
