PRAIRIE VIEW, TX — It’s been exactly two weeks since Sandra Bland was pulled over by DPS trooper Brian Encinia and her life was forever changed. Questions surrounding her death have steadily increased since her body was found in a Waller County jail cell three days after being arrested.

One of those questions is whether or not Bland was targeted because of her race. Newsfix caught up with a life-long resident of the small area and he expressed that in his opinion race was a factor.

Dewayne Charleston was an elected official in Waller County for more than seven years and he believes county Sheriff Glen Smith is to blame for the death of 28-year-old Bland. Charleston believes because Bland was in the custody of the county jail, Smith should take responsibility for what happened.
