GROVETOWN, GA - Who says felons can't be fashionable? The hot new color in crime prevention this season is "pink." With it Georgia is warning possible criminals, "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time, wearing it!" Male inmates at Grovetown's Detention Center are going through a bit of a wardrobe change and just in time for spring. Orange is out. Now, the prisoners are pretty in pink.
By making them wear the pastel color, public safety officials are hoping trouble makers will find this humbling hue, one more reason to be afraid of jail time. The hot pink prison duds do more than just make the prisoners feel insecure about their inmate status, but also during work detail outdoors while picking up trash on the side of the road. And besides embarrassing those already behind bars, Georgia wants the pink outfits to deter repeat offenders.
Georgia, a state known for its peaches is giving potential prisoners something else that's sweet, to think about.
