MISSOURI CITY, TX – We’ve all heard stories about cats stuck in trees. In January, the Missouri City Fire Department responded to a call for a NeNe stuck in a tree.

NeNe is Samantha White’s grandma, Renee Brown, who was stuck hanging from a tree when her ladder fell.

Samantha says, “I had to call 911. I said bring the firemen over.”

Help arrived just in time.

Josh Calloway of the Missouri City Fire Department says, “She was very close to hitting the ground hard.”

But she didn’t thanks to Samantha. So to honor Samantha and mark National 911 Education Month, Missouri City recognized the 5-year-old as a hero. In addition to a plaque and some presents, Samantha got to ride in a fire truck.

This event is one Samantha, her family and her rescuers will always remember.
