HOUSTON --  Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a few house bills on Tuesday morning at the Department of Public Safety's headquarters in Houston.

The bills let DPS hire 250 more troopers, provide more training and supplies at the border, and give prosecutors a greater reach when it comes to cartels. Abbott says all of that, along with appropriations in the budget, will help turn the tide.

“Together these laws establish a comprehensive border plan that will keep our state and our communities a safer place, and I am proud to sign into law HB 11 as well as the other laws today,” said Abbott at the signing.

Among the other nuggets in those laws, the governor also approved creating a child sex trafficking prevention unit, and increasing penalties for traffickers.
