HOUSTON — An off-duty HCSO detention officer was shot while confronting car burglars trying to steal his car in northwest Houston.

Around midnight, the officer saw four guys breaking into his vehicle at the Rock Creek Apartments off of Hollow Tree.

Deputies say when he tried to stop them, one of the suspects shot him five times.

Remarkably he’s going to survive and is in surgery.

The suspects drove off in a burnt orange Ram pickup. It was shortly found after, abandoned and set on fire

The men have yet to be found.
