HOUSTON, TX – One Houston hospital is in need of some care for its own survival.

Riverside General Hospital, a non-profit facility, formerly known as Houston Negro Hospital could be closing if it doesn’t get funding within the next six weeks.

Between 1996 and 2012, the hospital’s funds were cut by 75%.

This came after the state called for a federal audit.

Also following the audit, the FBI arrested and indicted Riverside’s former CEO, Earnest Gibson III and six other workers on Medicare fraud and conspiracy charges involving more than $400 million in bogus billings.

The hospital has been serving the Houston’s Third Ward community for more 96 years.

Many of its patients were low income, mentally ill and substance abusers who couldn’t afford medical treatment. Riverside General was left to count on reimbursements from Medicare and Medicaid.

The community’s outraged that the hospital is still left with burning wounds in need of financial care.

With the hospital’s history of charges of money laundering, conspiracy and kick-backs.

If the state funding doesn’t come through soon, Riverside General may soon be in critical condition.
