HOUSTON - Though it's not yet officially summer, which begins June 21, the hot Texas days are already here.
Some are feeling the heat a bit more than others. Residents at the Westheimer Terrace apartments say they've been without air conditioning for nearly two weeks.
"The main office doesn't seem like they're trying to do anything to compensate us for the issue they haven't taken care of," one resident said.
That may not be completely true. According to a memo dated June 11, ice cream, drinks, and chips are available at the front office.
If snacks count as compensation, that's gotta be hard to swallow in a situation like this. A hotel room would be more like it.
Management apologizes in the memo for the inconvenience saying they're doing their best to get the issue fixed as soon as possible.
When we asked where's the A/C, we were shown the exit. Though they wouldn't speak with us, we did find out the company currently listed as the owner says they sold the 306-unit complex about two weeks ago.
Air conditioning is not a luxury, but a must-have in Texas.
One family says they bought their own window unit A/C to keep cool, but that only does so much.
"We're not cooking in the house as much to keep the heat out and we just pretty much stay in the bedroom. We don't really use our apartment for anything but pretty much to sleep now," one mom stated.
Until this all cools down, looks like the Westheimer Terrace apartments is making life a living hell for the residents.
Apparently, someone needs to hold management's feet to the fire.
