HOUSTON, TX — As several different law enforcement agencies scramble to find out what happened to Sandra Bland, many are wondering if the entire situation could have been avoided all together.

Local victim right’s lawyer Kim Ogg believes a small change in procedure could have a big impact, maybe even mean the difference between life and death for some.

Ogg proposes that when a suspect is arrested for assaulting an officer or resisting arrest, video from the scene be it dash cam or body cam footage, should be reviewed immediately by a prosecutor.

The hope is that analyzing video within 24 hours of an arrest and comparing it to the officer’s statement, will prevent false criminal charges from being filed. Or like in the case of Bland, keep an inmate from being held for days unlawfully.
