HOUSTON, TX – Houston crime statistics are out for the first half of the year, and the Houston Police Department has some good news and some bad news.

As for the good, for the first six months of 2015, burglaries are down. HPD says the crime category with the largest decrease is home burglaries, which have reportedly dropped 19 percent since this time last year. Car burglaries have also gone down about 10 percent across the city.

It’s progress that Houston Police Chief Charles McClelland says is a result of working together.

“Technology, putting our resources where we can get the most bang for our bucks, citizens involvement, citizens education, all the community partnerships that we have has contributed to that,” said McClelland.

However, the bad news is that murder is up. HPD says there have been 44 percent more murders in the first half of this year, compared to the first half of last year.
