mailHOUSTON, TX – 50 years is a long time for any line of work. Nyle Churchwell has just wrapped up 55 years with the United States Postal Service.

For a long time the question to Nyle was always: when are you going to retire?

“I always would tell them, when the Lord tells me to retire,’ says Churchwell. ‘He gave me this job and He gave me the love for this job. I’m going to do it until I get a word from Him telling me that it’s all over.”

When Churchwell first started, post offices were segregated and stamps were much cheaper. Also, mail carriers didn’t have their own vehicles and had to use public transit.

Nyle has grown close to several of his customers, and seen the changes in their families.

Newly-retired Churchwell knew that it was time for him to wrap his career up and is now waiting to see where life takes him next.
