HOUSTON – Protesters in Houston joined with rallies across the country over the conviction of Chinese-American police officer Peter Liang.
Liang, 28, was convicted on manslaughter and official-misconduct charges after the fatal shooting of Akai Gurley, an unarmed man in a Brooklyn housing project in Nov. 2014. Members of Houston’s Asian community believe this was an unfair verdict and say Liang was prosecuted while other involved officers were not.
