HOUSTON, TX – Collecting stuffed animals for kids affected by violent crimes is a project that was started 5 years ago by Julia Briggs, a 13 year old girl trying to earn a Silver Star Award from Girls Scouts.

Unfortunately before Julia could see it through, she passed away from a rare form of cancer.  Her friends and family have carried her mission forward every year at the Cy-Fair Lacrosse Tournament.

Sergeant Harris with Houston Homicide, and Julia’s former Lacrosse Coach says the stuffed animals collected by HPD, the Girls Scouts of America and the Cy-Fair Lacrosse Tournament really helps comfort a child through a time of chaos

Giving children in the midst of tragedy comfort and security. That’s Julia’s legacy.

Every year the Burning Flower Foundation collects thousands of stuffed animals.  Unfortunately, there are a greater number of children impacted by crime than the quantity we collect.  The Burning Flower Lacrosse Classic is the primary collection method; however, donations are accepted year round.  If you were unable to donate this past weekend or would like to donate more stuffed animals toward this worthy cause, here are some other options:
•             Cy-Fair Iron Maidens will accept donations at Aggieland Classic this weekend (February 1st – 2nd) in College Station
•             Cy-Fair Iron Maidens will accept donations at any of our Home or Away games during the season
•             Stop by Just Her Sports in Bellaire, TX for any or your lacrosse apparel or equipment needs and donate a stuffed animal during your visit
