DANNEMORA, NY – And now for today’s installment of Prison Breaking News. Richard Matt and David Sweat are still on the run after busting out of the maximum security state prison in Dannemora, New York, last weekend.
The police dogs apparently picked up another scent, this one about a mile from the joint.
Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie says prison seamstress Joyce Mitchell may have played a key role. He says she befriended the hombres through her work at the prison.
“There is some information that she provided some form of equipment or tools, but not power tools.”
Investigators say Mitchell gave the pair hacksaw blades, drill bits, and special eyeglasses with lights.
Mitchell is not in custody, but she continues to answer questions without a lawyer present.
Now, apparently, she’s fingered her husband. The DA says Lyle Mitchell may have been in on it. He works in the maintenance department in the tailoring shop where Joyce works.
Joyce told investigators Matt made her feel special, but she didn’t go as far as to say she was in love with him.
With the search narrowing, the answers to a lot of questions may be just around the corner.
