ATLANTA, GA – The children of Martin Luther King, Jr. are locked in a legal battle over MLK’s Nobel Peace Prize medal and his personal Bible. His sons Dexter and Martin Luther III, who control the King estate, are suing their sister Bernice for the Bible and the medal, so that the estate can potentially sell the items to a private buyer. King won the Nobel medal in 1964 after leading a non-violent boycott of segregated bus service in Montgomery, Alabama.
King’s sons say they need the money to continue running the estate. Bernice has said, “There is no justification for selling either of these sacred items. they are priceless…”
King’s Bible was also used by President Obama, when he was sworn into office during his 2013 inauguration.
