WASHINGTON, D.C. – He went on Oprah and shed a few tears; but Lance Armstrong may not have crossed the finish with federal investigators.

Now the feds are saying they may consider cutting his lifetime ban from professional cycling down to just eight years, if the star cooperates under oath. They want to know who helped him.

Still, Armstrong doesn’t have a perfect track record under oath. A taped deposition from 2005 shows him flatly lying about using performance enhancing drugs. With that kind of thing, there are some reports that agents are still weighing charges, like obstruction, intimidation and witness tampering.

Lance was definitely a successful racer, but this stuff makes for a heck of a ride.
