HOUSTON— The Houston Police Department is investigating after a man was fatally shot and a teen was injured in east downtown Houston Tuesday.

Police responded to a shooting call at Avenue L and Maltby around 11:45 p.m.

According to police, a husband and wife were at an apartment complex with their small child when an altercation occurred between the husband and another person. Shots were fired and the husband was struck by bullets.

The man managed to flee the scene and drove down Avenue L, where he collapsed while behind the wheel. The vehicle crashed into a tree in a yard at the end of the block.

“Information we got is they were at an apartment down the street. There was some kind of altercation over a transaction and gunfire broke out. At that point, the victim was shot. He drove the van down to the end of the intersection where he crashed into a parked car and was deceased at that location,” said HPD Lt. Larry Crowson. “It is my understanding that the deceased had his wife and child in the car. I’m not sure how old, but a younger child.”

The wife and child were not injured.

While officers were responding to the shooting, a teen wandered into a nearby fire station, also suffering from a gunshot wound.

“While officers were at the scene they received a call from the fire station that was around the corner that a 16-year-old male showed up there. He’d also been shot, we believe in the same incident,” Crowson explained.

The teen was transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive.

No charges have been filed at this time.
