GALVESTON, Tx. - Rough waters this week for one family aboard the Carnival Triumph. Joseph Allen was escorted off the Triumph Saturday morning in handcuffs, charged with assaulting his 14-year-old stepson during their 6-day cruise.

According to federal court documents, the incident took place on board after Allen returned to the boat from Progresso, Mexico, allegedly intoxicated.

Apparently he and his wife engaged in a verbal argument and the 14-year-old attempted to defend his mother. That`s when the alleged assault occurred; leaving the teen with a cut beneath his right eye, a bloody lip, and a chipped front tooth.

Witnesses also said they saw Allen with his hands around the boy's neck while his mother was pleading, “get off my baby.”

Allen was taken into custody by ship security and isolated for the remainder of the cruise, while the victim and his mother sought medical treatment in Cozumel the following day.

In a statement Carnival Cruise Lines says they will not tolerate behavior that could put any passengers at risk.

Returning cruisers who didn't witness the incident say they had no idea what happened.

The criminal complaint is filed in federal court and the FBI is on the case.
