HOUSTON, TX – A friendly bit of show and tell turns deadly overnight, as police respond to a shooting in south Houston.

Police say an 18-year-old male was visiting friends at a home near Panay and Selinksy. He apparently began boasting about the gun he recently purchased. Then he got the gun from his car parked out front, and started showing it off to a 17-year-old friend.

Sgt. Baron Glover explains, “As he was giving it to the other male the fire arm discharged shooting the victim in the neck.”

The victim was the 17-year-old friend.

He was rushed to Ben Taub hospital where he later died.

Authorities have determined that this was an accident, but the case is being referred to the District Attorney`s Office for any possible charges.

A harsh reminder that guns are not toys, and playing with them can have deadly consequences.
