EAGLE RIVER, WI – Construction has begun on a winter landmark in Wisconsin.

This ice castle is a tradition going back more than eighty years in Eagle River.

Each winter, volunteers, headed by area firefighters, help build the castle.

People from all over come to see it.

It takes more than 4,000 blocks of ice from a local lake to build the ice castle.

The design changes every year, and lights are installed inside to illuminate it at night.

Officials say, with the right weather, the castle shouldn’t melt until March.
