WASHINGTON, DC – Ever wondered if there’s life lurking out there — just waiting to be discovered? We may be a lot closer to finding out than you think.

NASA scientists plan to build the world’s most powerful telescope named ATLAST; which stands for the Advanced Technology Large Aperture Space Telescope.

The instrument, with a mirror as big as 20 meters across, will let scientists analyze if extra-terrestrial life exists millions of miles away in other parts of space.

It’s going to be so gigantic that instead of being transported by a rocket, astronauts will have to be launched into space to build it! But it’ll be a little while before you get to see any aliens.

Scientists say ATLAST could blastoff in 2030.

No matter how long the wait — this is astronomical!
