BEIJING, CHINA – Something’s in the water in China, and what washed up in a river has a lot of people worried.

Nearly a thousand ducks were found dead in the Nanhe River. Officials say the rotten birds were found tucked into 50 woven plastic bags. The good news is that experts say the river isn’t a source of drinking water, so there’s no contamination threat. The bad news is that no one knows exactly how the birds died.

Perhaps what makes this even worse is the fact that for the past two weeks, dead pigs have been washing up in the Huangpu River. So far more than 16,000 pig carcasses have been pulled from the waters.

So if you’re in China and craving some Chinese food, maybe it’d be best to stick with a veggie plate!
