HOUSTON - Neighbors thought they were fireworks, but it turns out the loud noises they heard early Thursday morning were gunshots used to end a Houston man's life.

Houston Police say the shooting happened just after midnight near Bigelow and Cochran in north Houston. Neighbors told officers that after the loud pops, they heard tires screeching.

When emergency crews got to the scene, they found a man who'd been shot several times. They took him to the hospital, but he died from his wounds.

"We don't have a vehicle description at this time. It was just a vehicle heard going eastbound on Bigelow from Cochran," said HPD Officer K. Elliott.

Houston Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the Homicide Division.
