AUSTIN, Texas -- A new chapter in Texas politics begins.
"I, Greg Abbott, do solemnly swear..."
When Greg Abbott started saying those words, history was being made as Abbott becomes the 48th governor of the great state of Texas.
Abbott says, "Let me express my deepest gratitude to people of this state or electing me governor of the great state in the United States of America."
Tens of thousands gathered on the south capitol lawn to witness history in the making, and members of the Texas legislature were on hand, too.
For at least the next four years, it will be Governor Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick at the helm of the Lone Star State.
How they handle the many challenges ahead will determine for how long.
But for now it's a celebration and hope for the future, because while Texas is only the second largest state in the nation, when it comes to throwing the biggest party, the Lone Star state shows who is number one.
