WASHINGTON, D.C. – Marriage equality was all the talk last week. This week it’s all about guns!

First, we start with the National Rifle Association. The NRA has a plan on how to arm our schools with the ‘National School Shield Program.’ The NRA first announced the program in December after the Newtown massacre. They want armed guards available in schools and training for teachers interested in being trained.

The state of Connecticut was also talking guns. They’re going to pass what’s being dubbed some of the strongest laws on high capacity magazines in the United States. Some of the requirements would be:

  • Eligibility certificates for purchasing a rifle, shotgun or ammo
  • Demand weapon offenders to register with the state
  • Impose background checks for all firearms
  • Expand the ban of assault weapons

The state will take a vote on Wednesday.

The town of Nelson, Georgia did the opposite. The town passed a law that requires the head of every household to own a gun and ammo. Town leaders say it’ll help make their community safer. Officials say the law is also meant to preempt any future attempt by the federal government to confiscate guns.

We’re called the United States of America, but when it comes to guns you can certainly say we’re divided.
