HOUSTON, TX – Road rage was likely high early Tuesday morning on I-45, especially if you were stuck in a massive backup. Unfortunately, the congestion couldn’t be blamed on construction.

An off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s deputy hit a pedestrian who was walking on the HOV lane. It happened at the inbound north freeway near Airtex.

It’s still not clear why on earth someone was walking on the freeway. As for the off-duty officer, officials say the accident happened in his private vehicle and he stopped to help.

Parts of the highway were blocked off and traffic was re-routed as crews worked to clear the scene. By 8am, it re-opened.

They don’t call it ‘rush hour’ for nothing, but remember to take a little extra time for yourself and others. It could make a whole lot of a difference.
