HOUSTON, Texas - Say bud, can you spare some change? Before you answer, you'd better ask yourself IF any of the coins in your pocket are worth anything? Because if you plan on hitting the stores in the next few days, then the answer may be yes.

The Greater Houston Coin Club is making the rounds slipping rare and valuable coins into circulation at stores across the city this week. And it's possible one may end up in your pocket.

"It's an Indian-head one-cent piece," Carl Schwenker with the coin club told us. "It's old, it's brown, it's worn, but it has really high potential."

The idea is to promote the upcoming Houston money show at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The coins alone are worth about $10 bucks. But find one in your change and bring it to the convention and it could win you $1,000.

"I'd love to go in and find a rare coin," Houstonian Luke Holdworf told us at a store in Southwest Houston. "I'll definitely be looking for those rare coins."

Let it pass you by and you could be missing out big time. And if you're not careful, you could be passing all that luck on to someone else. Maybe even someone who needs it more than you.
