PUERTO CASADO, Paraguay – The debate over climate change, also known as global warming, is still a hot topic. That’s especially true after a blogger’s claim that weather watchers are cooking the books by artificially increasing temperatures collected during the past half-century.

Blogger Paul Homewood says the data from a weather station in Paraguay show a steady temperature increase of 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit since the 1960s. But apparently, the raw numbers show a decrease in temperatures over the same period.

After looking at other collection sites, Homewood says government and academic researchers have used the adjusted temperatures to support their claims that the Arctic is getting warmer as part of global climate change.

But some people who make their living tracking global warming say the higher temperatures are what happens when calibrating the new instruments to the old temperatures.

They, also, point to other data to support their findings that temperatures in and around Paraguay are rising and that the Earth is getting warmer. But right now, that would be a pretty hard sell to the people in Massachusetts getting hammered with another winter storm.
