LONDON, ENGLAND – Let’s give a shout out to the women of the world! It is International Women’s Day after all.
Things are looking up for the roughly 3.5 billion women and girls in the world. Salaries, leadership position, and healthier children are on the rise.
Despite all of this, it’s still far from perfect.
60 percent of the world’s hungry are female, while more than 500 million can’t read or write. A whopping 70 percent of women have been physically or sexually assaulted. Not as surprising when you learn that more than 600 million live in countries where it’s legal for a husband to beat his wife. Sobering statistics.
And there’s more. Even with equal pay laws around the world, women still make 10-30 percent less than men. And, despite powerhouses like Hillary Clinton and Germany`s Angela Merkel, women only account for 20 percent of the world’s political power.
