How did you react when Melania Trump’s speech gave us a case of déjà vu?

Sure, we can all point fingers at the Trump camp and say things like, ‘You kidding me??’

But go to plagiarism.org, yes there’s a site, and you see links to studies that show someone you know can’t get through high school and college without cheating.   Nearly six out of ten students cheat on tests — and a third do exactly what happened with Melania.

How did we get here?  I mean, he didn’t say, ‘You’re fired!” to the speech writer who screwed up.   Here’s why: We live in a time where there is no such thing as an original idea anymore.

Look at movies.  Sequels and reboots dominate; so many things are rip-offs from other stories.  Remember Cars?  It’s the same story from an old Michael J. Fox movie called Doc Hollywood. Ready for an Avatar sequel? Well, the first one was Dances with Wolves, which was Pocahontas.

TV is no different. How many copies of this American idol did we have to deal with?

And in music, this song, did  blur the lines’ between coming up with something on your own?

Let’s face it: Everything for our consumption is just old, tired, and really doesn’t say anything new.

And somehow, we sit back and buy it because copycats seem to get more than nine lives.
