HOUSTON, TX - On Saturday, the Houston Society for the Performing Arts (SPA) attempted to break the Guinness Book of World Records for plate spinning.

More than 1,100 plate spinners of all ages including audience volunteers and acrobats spun plates on rods.

Their collective effort totaled just under 900 plates spinning all at once, but their theatrical act didn't quite make the record.

"The last time this record was made was in 2007 in the Netherlands and the records was 1,026," says Karen Watassek with S.P.A.

When trying to break a record, almost just isn't quite good enough.  Maybe next year they'll try again to spin it to win it.
