Sparrow’s “Ruff Life” hopefully leads to a home she can treasure

HOUSTON, Tx. – A peg leg, a life-preserver and the name “Sparrow” might make you think of pirates, but not in this case. The peg leg is a cast.
The life-preserver is an inflatable e-collar and “Sparrow” is a female, black lab mix.
“This beautiful black lab is Sparrow. She’s just over a year old, we think. She came in on our 24-hour rescue ambulance. It looks like she was probably hit by a car and she has an injury to her left front leg,” says Lisa Rotter of the Houston SPCA.
“She has a small fracture of her left radius and we’re hoping with a splint, giving some time and going to a foster home she’ll be good as new in about 4-6 weeks” explains Houston SPCA veterinarian, Dr. Denise Katz.
Keeping this “black pearl” calm for a month won’t be easy but fortunately, she loves tummy rubs.
When Sparrow is ready to fly to her “furever” home she’ll be looking for a special family. “This dog has so much energy and personality. She makes friends with everybody she meets. She’s just going to make somebody a wonderful pet” says Rotter.
Sparrow may have been named for a pirate but she’s a treasure just waiting to be adopted.
