SEATTLE, WA – Believe it or not, working at Starbucks or Walmart could help you get ahead. Seriously! Both companies are starting to offer their own classes to help sharpen workers’ skills.
In Seattle, Starbucks workers can take courses called Barista Basics and Barista 101. You can earn one-and-a-half credits for each of the classes for college, and three credits a piece for higher-level management courses.
Walmart’s classes teach its associates about time management, effective phone skills and managing diversity. Because if there’s one thing we’ve learned from the People of Walmart website, it’s that Walmart really is very, very diverse.
