GREENVILLE, TX - If you're gonna lead police on a chase, you might want to steal a vehicle that can haul some serious butt. A man in north Texas chose an 18-wheeler.

Going at break-neck speeds of 30 to 45 miles per hour, the thief and a dog held hostage drove through Rockwall and Hunt counties, east of Dallas. The chase came to a stop when the driver ran over some spike strips, then ran out of road near I-30 in Greenville. From there, it turned into a standoff.

An armored car moved in and officers eventually fired tear gas into the cab. The truck driver let the dog out, then surrendered with his hands up. A warning for thieves with a need for speed: the Highway to Hell ends in Texas.
