HOUSTON - Houston is one of the most pet-friendly cities in the U-S.

That's according to Abodo, an online apartment locator in Madison, Wisconsin, who “doggedly” evaluated hundreds of thousands of rental listings to compile the friendliest cities for our four-legged friends.

Tails were wagging when dogs heard, 46% of H-town apartments listed on Abodo allow dogs and cats. Hey, that makes Houston third in the country when it comes to pet-friendly cities… and that’s nothing to snarl at since Abodo says about 70% of apartment renters are pet owners.

Animals don’t have it too “ruff” in the Lone Star State. Four Texas cities were in the top 10:

  1. Dallas
  2. Austin
  3. Houston
  4. San Antonio
  5. Chicago
  6. New York
  7. Phoenix
  8. Miami
  9. Detroit
  10. Lexington, KY

But as renters know, no matter where you and your furry friend live... size matters.

“It’s been easy for me because I have small dogs, although a lot of apartments have breed restrictions and weight restrictions that some of my friends have had issues with,” says Kourtnie Ivey.

Philip Franklin has a 35-lbs. shepherd mix and says finding an apartment isn't easy, “We’ve moved three times in the Houston area, and every time we move it’s a question of not where we want to move but where can our dog be accepted.” Aww, that’s a dog gone shame.

For now, we’ll just “paws” and celebrate being #3.
