PHOENIX, AZ – Tensions are high, as yet another police officer was shot during a traffic stop. This time it happened in Phoenix. Unknown if this incident was an ambush, but the officer was shot multiple times and is expected to survive.
Are police officers walking around with targets on their backs?
Warren Thomas said, “It’s not an easy job and I know there are a lot of problems with police, talking about human beings, and most of them are, vast majority are decent people and I think it would be nice if we could approach them with some respect.”
“I just think there is some caution and there is some profiling that goes on, so certain neighborhoods I know I would not go in,” according to Pam Griggs.
A Kentucky trooper was shot over the weekend during a traffic stop, and here in Houston, Deputy Darren Goforth was gunned down just two and a half weeks ago.
Robert Goerlitz, President of the Harris County Deputies’ Organization explained, “These things are unprovoked, they’re just completely unprovoked, it isn’t like they were going to a family disturbance or a traffic stop of some felony suspect or something like that. These things are just completely coming out of midair.”
Law enforcement officers aren’t stepping back.
“We’re not going to back down, we’re not going to hide, we’re not going to shirk away from any of these duties,” added Goerlitz.
The question remains, how do you bring this trend to an end?
