LOS ANGELES, CA – The film ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ made an unexpected journey into the record books. It made $84.8 million over its three-day opening weekend. That makes it the best December debut ever! The last film to hold that record was 2007’s ‘I Am Legend’ with $77.2 million.
Even though $84 million seems like a lot, it wasn’t enough to impress those money hungry movie executives. The film under-performed for them. They thought it’d make somewhere closer to $100 million.
The film may have broken one record, but now movie insiders and those money hungry execs we told you about are watching closely to see if The Hobbit can break the ‘Lord of the Rings’ record. Those movies made more than $300 million between 2001-2003.
Even if it doesn’t, it’s safe to say that Hobbit’s still hoppin’ in the doe!
