PYONGYANG, NORTH KOREA – Forget all about the mumbo-jumbo and military pomp and circumstance coming out of North Korea, the planet’s most repressive society.
The United Nations says the truth is the country’s children are starving while their diminutive despot Li’l Kim Jong-Un and his Beastly Boyz, who wine and dine with him, get fat and happy.
UNICEF, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, says it needs $18 million US to help about 25,000 North Korean children suffering from severe and acute malnutrition.
UNICEF figures 17,585 children ended up for treatment in hospitals and clinics between Oct. 2011 and Nov. 2012.
And although UNICEF says conditions are improving, last year’s drought cut crop production by nearly 20 percent.
Add to that an increase in diarrhea among children under 5 in the affected areas, and the tens of thousands of children needing immediate treatment for malnutrition.
The $18 million for North Korea is part of the roughly $2.8 billion UNICEF says it needs to help children around the world.
You can dress them up in pretty clothes, but their hungry stomachs always know.
