SEATTLE, WA– So you’ve finally found ‘The One,’ and you’re sure your love will last forever. Then have we got a deal for you!!
SwanLuv.com, a website out of Seattle, will give you up to $10,000 to fund your dream wedding. The hitch comes if you get ‘unhitched’. Divorce, and you have to pay back all the money– with interest!
“It’s interesting that we live in a world where we assume marriages or relationships are going to fail,” says dating divorcee Amanda Johnson, “and we’re kind of investing in that in a way.”
The co-founder of SwanLuv, Scott Avy, calls it ‘a casino for marriage.’ He says anyone can apply for the cash, but the interest rate goes up, based on how strong the company’s algorithm software shows your relationship is.
But, seriously— just how long can a business like this last? “I can’t imagine in this climate that it’s a very good way to make money,” says Mary Lowe, who wouldn’t take the money since she plans to elope.
We wondered if any Houstonians would ‘bank’ on their love. “I think it’s a risky move,” says Marcus Powers, who is single and works in public relations. “If you think it’s gonna last, which I guess everybody does when they get married, it might be well worth the $10,000.”
“There is a temptation there to say, ‘Well, sure I’ll commit myself to doing this,'” says Johnson, “but there’s something around it that I’m not sure I agree with.'”
“10 grand isn’t bad,” adds Powers, weighing the pros and cons. “That would pay for a pretty nice honeymoon, too.”
SwanLuv expects to start handing out their first checks next year on Valentine’s Day. If you’re interested, make sure you’re in it ‘til death do you part.
