HOUSTON -- A 68-year-old woman and her dog died after the woman's car went off a boat ramp at Clear Lake Park Thursday night.

According to Precinct 8 deputy constables, deputies were dispatched to the 5100 block of NASA Parkway shortly before 10 p.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle in the water.

Deputies arrived to find a black Honda Civic submerged and saw a person trapped inside the car, but the driver's side door was locked. They used a fire department tool to break the window, then pulled the woman out.

Deputies then saw the dog inside the car. The dog's leash had to be cut off before it could be pulled from the vehicle, but the animal did not survive.

The woman was transported to the hospital in critical condition, but was pronounced dead Friday morning.
